Well well! It seems that the ol' Mandrake is starting to make it into the written word! Okay, some of it digital, but you know what I mean! I always felt like an exhibitionist before, considering putting up a shameless press page, but that was because I had no press then and was still merely an oddball acorn hoping to be a real tree when she grows up...
Feminist Review, January 9, 2008:
"...Café y Cacao is at once intoxicating, light, and rich and sniffing my wrists got me past the traditional 4pm coffee and sweet craving — wearing it was a multi-sensory experience! Unlike many scents, this could be worn by just about anyone and not be overpowering or more suited to one gender or another..."
Feminist Review, December 17, 2007:
"...this parfum brings up a rush of associations with the past, faith, spirituality, even darkness. It is as philosophical and meaningful a fragrance as I have ever encountered, and I like it very much..." (A review of Ofrenda!)

"...What can I say? Sara Phillips of Mandrake Apothecary is a perfume genius. Plain and simple..."
Dead People Taste Funny, July 7, 2007:
"...left-of-center pagan perfumer..." (This was a hoot. Chris at Chaos Star Productions emailed me out of the blue asking if I'd be interested in joining one of their alt business listings, and I asked him how about an interview? Poor guy didn't know I can type until the cows come home!)
SF Chronicle, February 11, 2007:
"...Then there's Sarah Phillips' Mandrake Apothecary, a Berkeley "woman-owned green business" that keeps "stewardship of the planet close to the heart and always in mind," according to its Web site..." (Note: I'll forgive the 'h' on my name, because the article was mostly about my good friend and colleague Laurie Stern!)
Chateau Bizarre, January 25, 2007:
"...Mandrake Apothecary is a pagan-run perfumerie that specializes in cruelty-free, handmade scents. They first appeared in the Chateau back in November, and they recently sent us a surprise package full of dabbables..."
SF Bay Guardian, December 2006:
"...Though all bath products can be hedonistic experiences, not all are. Mandrake Apothecary puts the sense into sensual. Perfect for the solstice, Mandrake's line of sexy scents ... is rife with plant extracts and mystical purpose. It's genuinely magic stuff...."
Wickedly Chic, November 2, 2006:
"...Take a step back to a simpler time with the alchemic perfumes of Mandrake Apothecary. These are magical blends crafted by the owner, Sara Phillips, that you surely will never find anywhere else. I get lost in scent heaven reading the descriptions of all the scents on the website...."
Ideal Bite, January 19, 2006:
"...Try a four-scent sampler of cruelty-free artisanal blends made with natural botanicals..."
